By special request here are my top ten picture books for children. Some I discovered as a family learning teacher and some were in my son's collection when he was younger. I have to admit, some of them are so well loved my son and I have kept them. The list features most of my favourite children's picture book authors, but there are many more. Look out for further features on picture books later.
So here they are, in no particular order:
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
- The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr
- Where's my Teddy by Jez Alborough
- Winnie the Witch by Korky Paul
- Q Pootle 5 by Nick Butterworth
- The Green Queen by Nick Sharratt
- Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne
- The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear by Audrey and Don Wood
- Mrs Honey's Hat by Pam Adams
- Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae

Thanks for this list Dorothy. Now I have more books to choose from for my reviews. Plus more books to read to my grandchildren.

What no 'Where the Wild Things Are?'!!!
Love this list - my grandson has his mommy's special books when she was young. Very Hungry Caterpillar is right up there on the top of the list. She also loved Brown Bear, Brown Bear.
Thanks for some new reading ideas.

Nice list. I'll have to check some of these out. I'm always on the hunt for great children's books and have recently discovered Bayard and their series of StoryBoxBooks, AdventureBoxBooks and DiscoveryBoxBooks (which has a special focus on teeth!) They have work by acclaimed children's books illustrator Helen Oxenbury appearing in the Storybox series for September. In addition to this, they also have some great activities for rainy days: http://www.storyboxbooks.com/potatoprinting.php, http://www.adventureboxbooks.com/macaroni-picture-frames.php, http://www.discoveryboxbooks.com/skittles.php Enjoy!
Excellent list... and more to come. You give us plenty of good information for the writer in us and the child in us as well.
Keep up the great blog.

I've kept quite a few of the children's books. Of course, I plan to have a stash of books for when the grandchildren arrive, and the ones I chose to keep are timeless.
